Executive Mayor of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grootspruit Solar Project in Allanridge

Today, the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, joined representatives from Engie, Aurex, and their project team to participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Grootspruit Solar Project in Allanridge.

This R1.4 billion solar initiative includes a cutting-edge substation designed to ensure the Loop-In-Loop-Out (LILO) overhead line seamlessly connects the new substation to an existing Eskom power line.

This connection is crucial for providing an uninterrupted energy supply to homes, businesses, and industries within the municipality....

In his address, the Executive Mayor reflected on the importance of this solar investment for Matjhabeng. He highlighted that this project would not only bolster the local power supply but also generate significant employment opportunities and business prospects for Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) in the area.

Executive Mayor Khalipha stressed the necessity of prioritising local SMMEs for subcontracting roles and other business opportunities, emphasising the need for competence and skill in these engagements.

Furthermore, the Executive Mayor reaffirmed his dedication, along with that of his team, to attracting additional investments to Matjhabeng to stimulate economic growth.

He called on the attending business leaders to advocate for investment opportunities in Matjhabeng, assuring them that the municipality is ready and open for investment to benefit its residents.

He also announced the upcoming Matjhabeng Investment Summit, scheduled for September this year, as a clear indication of the municipality’s commitment to diversifying its economy, which has historically depended on mining.

Accompanying the Executive Mayor at the event were several council members, MMC for LED, Cllr Mojalefa Buti; MMC for Disaster Management, Service Delivery, and Fleet Management, Cllr Buda Ramalefa; Cllr Hanisi; Cllr Ramatisa; Cllr Montoedi; Cllr Maruping; Cllr Makaliane; Cllr Ntone; and the Municipal Manager, Adv. Lonwabo Ngoqo.

The Matjhabeng Local Municipality, LED Department under the leadership of MMC Mojalefa Buti, today held an Agro-Food Processing session with SMMEs in the field.

The session, facilitated by Director Dr. Sefako and senior officials Mr. Thoabala and Mr. Lebese from the LED department, also included representatives from the IDC and the FDC.

The event aimed to demonstrate the local capability in agricultural and food processing, emphasizing that residents can efficiently process products from agriculture and meat. The LED Strategy highlights agriculture as a potential key driver of economic development, especially in the face of declining mining activities. By diversifying economic activities, agriculture can become a significant contributor to the local economy.

The session provided a platform for stakeholders in the agricultural sector to showcase their skills and products. The Matjhabeng Municipality expressed gratitude for the exposure and opportunities provided to the local community in the agricultural sector.

Today Councillor Thanduxolo Khalipha, Executive Mayor of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, held an important meeting with the Riebeckstaad community to introduce NOA, the company responsible for implementing the Khautha Solar Project in Matjhabeng.

This ambitious 350 MW solar project is designed to operate for 30 years and is poised to transform the Matjhabeng Local Municipality into a diverse industrial hub.

With an investment of R4.4 billion, the project will significantly alleviate South Africa's energy crisis by producing 900 GWh of power annually—sufficient to supply electricity to approximately 250,000 homes in the region. ...

A comprehensive Economic Development (ED) and Socio-Economic Development (SED) plan will be formulated, incorporating feedback from municipal and community stakeholders.

Over its 30-year lifespan, the project is expected to contribute over R200 million in community benefits.

Furthermore, job creation stands as a cornerstone of this initiative, offering numerous employment opportunities to the residents of Matjhabeng.

During the meeting, community members had the chance to engage directly with the Executive Mayor and the Mayoral Committee, seeking clarification and providing input on the project.

Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha Convenes Mayoral Imbizo for Residents of Ward 34 and 35.

Today, the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Councillor Thanduxolo Khalipha, convened a pivotal Mayoral Imbizo for the residents of Ward 34 and 35. This important session was dedicated to presenting the Municipal Budget, outlining ongoing and upcoming projects, and underscoring the importance of residents paying for services.

During the Imbizo, Mayor Khalipha provided an overview of the municipality's financial health and strategic priorities for the upcoming fiscal year.

He stressed the critical role of timely payment for municipal services in sustaining high-quality service delivery. Regular payments ensure uninterrupted services and enable the municipality to maintain and upgrade infrastructure. ...

The municipality has prioritised significant investments in critical infrastructure such as roads, water supply, and sanitation to improve the quality of life for all residents of Matjhabeng Local Municipality.

Mayor Khalipha also discussed current and future projects, including infrastructure development initiatives designed to stimulate local economic growth by creating opportunities for small businesses, generating jobs, and attracting investment into the region.

Mayor Khalipha informed residents about the investment of billions of rands in solar projects in Matjhabeng. Some projects have already started, while others will soon commence.

The Executive Mayor also addressed the ongoing service delivery program dedicated to Ward 34 and 35, urging residents to avoid dumping garbage illegally. He assured them that refuse collection will be conducted daily in all wards, as the municipality has procured enough refuse removal trucks, with each ward having a dedicated truck.

Mayor Khalipha concluded the Imbizo by engaging directly with residents, answering questions, and addressing concerns. This open dialogue reinforced the administration’s commitment to transparency and community involvement in municipal governance.

Matjhabeng Local Municipality Bolsters Service Capacity with 30 New Collection Trucks.

With the procurement of more than 30 refuse collection trucks by the administration led by Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, the Executive Mayor, each ward of the Matjhabeng Local Municipality will have a dedicated refuse collection (compactor) truck branded with the ward's number.

The plan is to ensure that refuse is collected daily from all wards of Matjhabeng.

The Acting Executive Director for Community Services will soon finalise the schedule, which is to be implemented shortly.
