Addressing the persistent sewer challenges faced by the municipality

The consultants and contractor involved in the sewer infrastructure programme in Matjhabeng have reaffirmed their full commitment to the Executive Mayor, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, to continue addressing the persistent sewer challenges faced by the municipality.

Among the key implementing partners is Zalisile Msebenzi Civil, one of the companies appointed by Vaal Central Water, acting on behalf of the Department of Water and Sanitation as part of the Ministerial Intervention Programme. This initiative is a direct response to the widespread sewer line collapses, the deterioration of Waste Water Treatment Plants (WWTPs), and damaged pump stations—many of which have been severely affected by ongoing acts of sabotage and vandalism....

The scope of work includes:
• Refurbishment and upgrade of collapsed sewer lines
• Restoration and modernization of wastewater treatment facilities
• Repair and protection of critical pump stations

This intervention demonstrates a coordinated effort by national and local government, supported by experienced technical teams, to restore essential sanitation infrastructure and improve service delivery across Matjhabeng.
Executive Mayor Khalipha has emphasised the importance of this work, stating: “Our goal is simple — restore the dignity of our people by keeping our streets clean and free from sewer overflows.”
