Executive Mayor Thanduxolo Khalipha Engages Residents of Ward 31 During Mayoral Imbizo
Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Cllr. Thanduxolo Khalipha, held a Mayoral Imbizo in Ward 31, where he
interacted directly with local residents to address service delivery issues and promote responsible community practices.
A key focus of the engagement was the persistent challenge of illegal dumping. The Mayor strongly urged community
members to refrain from disposing of waste in open and unauthorized spaces, emphasising that such practices contribute
to the proliferation of illegal dumping sites, which harm the environment, attract health hazards, and undermine
municipal efforts to maintain clean and sustainable neighbourhoods....
During the Imbizo, the Executive Mayor also elaborated on the Ward-to-Ward Service Delivery Campaign, officially
launched yesterday in both Ward 30 and Ward 31.
This campaign is aimed at bringing services closer to the people, identifying community-specific needs, and fostering
accountability and transparency in local governance.
Mayor Khalipha detailed how this initiative will be rolled out across all wards, and how it serves as a platform for
residents to raise concerns and receive direct feedback from municipal leadership.
In addition, the Mayor outlined the Municipality’s intensified efforts to enforce its bylaws, particularly those related
to environmental management and land use.
He affirmed that stricter measures would be implemented to address non-compliance, and that community awareness
campaigns would accompany these enforcement efforts to ensure residents understand the regulations and their purpose.
Mayor Khalipha also provided updates on key development projects, including the Solar Energy Project in Riebeeckstad,
which aims to enhance energy sustainability and reduce municipal electricity costs, and the Welkom Airport
Revitalization Project, which is part of broader plans to stimulate local economic development and improve transport
infrastructure.
In closing, the Mayor announced that he would return to Ward 31 next week for an open community session. This upcoming
engagement will bring together residents and various stakeholders to further deliberate on local issues and co-create
sustainable solutions.
He also conveyed the sincere apology of Ward Councillor and Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), Cllr. Hlobohang
Mokhomo, who was unable to attend due to his participation in a scheduled Council Sitting.

The Matjhabeng Local Municipality continues to intensify efforts to create a cleaner and healthier environment for
all residents. Yesterday, municipal teams were hard at work clearing illegal dumping sites in Thabong as part of
ongoing waste management interventions.
However, during these operations, a resident was caught illegally dumping waste—just moments after the municipal
refuse truck had serviced the area according to the scheduled collection. This incident highlights a serious
disregard for community cleanliness and undermines collective efforts to build a better Matjhabeng.
...
We urge all residents to be responsible citizens by:
• Refraining from illegal dumping,
• Adhering to the official waste collection schedule, and
• Reporting those who continue to pollute our communities.
A clean Matjhabeng starts with you. Let’s work together to eliminate illegal dumping and restore the dignity of our neighborhoods.
